post-summer blues

Amisha Roop

We have all heard of ‘winter blues’, but what about post-summer blues?

Post-summer blues is that weird feeling when you know the early morning beach swims and late night festivals are coming to an end and everything feels a lot.. sadder.

We all love summer, it is so much easier to romanticise. There is nothing like waking up to the sun shining, going to your favourite workout class with your best friends and running to the beach to lay up with a good book. What are we meant to do in the colder months!?

With summer coming to an end, here are 6 ways you can combat the ‘post-summer blues’:

  1. Remind yourself that you can still do the things you love, it may just look a little different. An early morning beach swim may just turn to an early morning beach stroll. Laying on the sand to read your favourite book may not work with the storms rolling in, but you can pop open the trunk of your car, lay some blankets down and read with a rainy beach view.

  2. Write it out. It’s easy to fall into a swirl of thoughts on how the grey clouds are getting to you, so pull out your pen and paper and jot it down. This is an easy way to reconnect with yourself and sort through all the crazy thoughts.

  3. Romanticise the weather. Fake it till you make it. Hop on Pinterest and make a board that romanticises the cold. Pictures of hot coffee, books you love.. anything it may be!

  4. Visit indoor spaces you didn’t get to during the warmer months. Look up your local art galleries, bookstores, indoor markets or hop to the cinemas!

  5. Dance in the rain. It sounds silly, but why not!? You wanted to do it as a child, so why not do it as an adult? Bring out your waterproof speaker, grab a friend and dance around till all the feelings get shaken out!

  6. Finally, know that summer will return. Take the colder months as your time to recharge and concentrate on your indoor spaces. You’ve got this!
